Sustainability :: Green Innovation of the Month Spanish Researchers Develop High-Yield Biomass-to-Biodiesel Process1:50 PM MST | February 8, 2011 | Rebecca Coons Researchers at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (Spain) say they have developed an energy efficient process to produce diesel from biomass, bypassing energy-intensive, low-selectivity processes. The team, led by Alvino Corma, published their results in a recent issue of Angewandte Chemie. “In the end we obtain 87% of the diesel fraction in the form of branched hydrocarbon chains with nine to 16 carbon atoms,” says Corma. “This is the best yield reported in the literature thus far for biodiesel ...
