Sustainability :: Green Innovation of the Month Solvay and Avantium Codevelop Engineering Bioplastics6:11 AM MDT | July 7, 2011 | Alex Scott Solvay and Avantium (Amsterdam) say they have entered into a multi-year, exclusive partnership to jointly develop and commercialize high-performance polyamides for engineering plastics derived from biomaterials. The collaboration will use Avantium’s YXY technology for developing building blocks for biomaterials. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. YXY is a patented catalytic technology that converts biomass into furanic building blocks, such as FDCA (2,5-furandicarboxylic acid). YXY technology uses carbohydrates as a feedstock.
