WTO members start initiative to reduce tariffs on green goods

The European Union and 13 other members of the World Trade Organization (WTO; Geneva), including the United States and China, have pledged to launch negotiations within the WTO to liberalize trade in green goods, the European Commission says. Green—or environmental—goods are regarded as a vital component in sustainable development, according to the commission, and include areas such as dealing with air pollution, generation of renewable energy, and waste management.
