Renewable energy reaches 14.1% of total EU energy consumption

The share of renewable energy in the gross final energy consumption of the 28 states in the European Union (EU 28) reached 14.1% in 2012, Eurostat, the European statistics office, says. In comparison, the level was 8.3% in 2004, the first year for which data are available. The share of renewables in the gross final energy consumption is one of the headline indicators of the European Union's Europe 2020 strategy.
