Dow and Solazyme Sign Commercial Offtake Agreement

Dow Chemical says it has signed a contingent commercial offtake agreement with Solazyme (San Francisco), an  algae-based oils firm, for Solazymes to supply  oils for biobased dielectric insulating fluids. The deal advances a joint development effort the two firms began early last year. The algal oils provide a higher flash point—reducing the risk of fire—and increased functionality to dielectric insulating fluids for transformers and other electrical applications, Dow says.  Financial terms were not disclosed, although Dow  says...
