VCI: Germany's chemical industry calls for a 'masterplan for transport infrastructure'

A well-functioning transport infrastructure is an important economic factor in Germany. About 226 million m.t. of chemical products were shipped to customers in 2012 (excluding pipelines), making the chemical industry the second largest customer of the haulage industry, accounting for about 6% of the total haulage traffic, according to VCI. Chemical companies ship almost two-thirds of their production by road, 14% by rail, and 10% by barge, VCI says. Germany must prevent a further deterioration in the transport network if it wishes to secure its competitiveness...
