Chemicals sector rail traffic rises 3.7%

Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America rose 3.7% year-on-year (YOY) during the week ended 14 September, to 42,374 cars, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington). US traffic was up 1.1%, to 29,504 cars. Canadian traffic rose 12.8%, to 11,753 cars, while Mexican traffic declined 12.8%, to 1,117 cars. Overall, North American freight rail traffic rose 2.4% YOY during the week ended 14 September, to 396,968 cars, AAR says.
