Services :: Shipping Rail Traffic Rises During Christmas Week10:10 AM MST | December 30, 2009 | Vincent Valk North American chemicals sector rail traffic rose 22.2% last week, to 34,311 cars, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) says. U.S. traffic rose 18.7%, to 21,694 cars. Canadian traffic was up 29.6%, to 11,628 cars, while Mexican traffic rose 17.7%, to 989 cars. All figures were declines from the prior week's totals. Last week included the Christmas holiday on Friday. In 2008, Christmas fell on a Thursday. Overall freight rail traffic rose 5.9% last week, to 264,044 cars.
