Services :: Shipping Rail Traffic Rises 15.6%2:43 PM MDT | May 20, 2010 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America rose 15.6% year-on-year last week, to 43,586 cars, the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington, DC) reports. U.S. traffic was up 12.1%, to 28,417 cars. Canadian traffic rose 25.2%, to 14,012 cars, while Mexican traffic fell 0.5%, to 1,157 cars. Traffic fell from the prior week's totals. Overall, North American freight rail traffic rose 19.9% last week, to 376,661 cars. Overall traffic in the U.S. totaled 290,263 cars, a 16.6% rise and the highest level since fall 2008, AAR says.
