Services :: Shipping Chemicals Sector Rail Traffic Rises 7.2%9:42 AM MDT | June 3, 2011 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America rose 7.2% year-on-year last week, to 42,885 cars, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington). U.S. traffic was up 2.7%, to 30,584 cars. Canadian traffic rose 26.4%, to 11,428 cars, while Mexican traffic fell 27.1%, to 873 cars. Traffic fell slightly from the prior week's totals, though it rose in Canada. Overall, North American freight rail traffic rose 1.4%, to 377,126 cars, AAR says.
