Services :: Shipping Chemicals Sector Rail Traffic Rises 6%3:22 PM MDT | October 6, 2011 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America rose 6% year-on-year for the week ended October 1, to 43,928 cars, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington). U.S. traffic was up 3.2%, to 30,805 cars. Canadian traffic rose 12.3%, to 11,945 cars, while Mexican traffic rose 21.8%, to 1,178 cars. Traffic rose from the prior week’s totals, though it fell in Mexico. Overall, North American freight rail traffic rose 4.5% year-on-year during the week ended October 1, to 408,383 cars, AAR says.
