Services :: Shipping Chemicals Sector Rail Traffic Falls 8.8%3:21 PM MDT | April 5, 2012 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America fell 8.8% year-on-year during the week ended March 31, to 43,692 cars, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington). U.S. traffic was down 5.3%, to 31,271 cars. Canadian traffic fell 18.5%, to 11,107 cars, while Mexican traffic rose 6.9%, to 1,314 cars. Traffic rose from the prior week’s totals, though it fell in Mexico. Overall, North American freight rail traffic fell 4.7% year-on-year during the week ended March 31, to 381,505 cars.
