Services :: Shipping Chemicals Sector Rail Traffic Falls 3.5%4:57 PM MST | December 8, 2011 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America fell 3.5% for the week ended December 3, to 43,248 cars, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington). U.S. traffic was down 3.8%, to 30,973 cars. Canadian traffic fell 5.5%, to 11,112 cars, while Mexican traffic rose 36%, to 1,163 cars. Traffic rose from the prior week’s totals, which included the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S. Overall, North American freight rail traffic rose 2.7% year-on-year for the week ended December 3, to 404,507 cars, AAR says.
