Platform Specialty Products reports loss

Platform Specialty Products today reported a first-quarter net loss of $5.9 million compared with income of $15.3 million in the year-ago quarter, on sales up 1% year-on-year (YOY), to $183.7 million. Platform is the parent company of the former MacDermid, bought last fall, and year-ago results reflect MacDermid’s earnings and sales for that period. Platform also recently announced plans to buy Chemtura’s agricultural chemicals business for $1 billion. Adjusted earnings totaled $23.2 million, up 15% YOY. “We are carrying momentum from the...
