Schulman’s fiscal first-quarter net income rose 48% year-on-year, to $13.6 million, or 46 cts/share, on sales up 4.4%, to $517.3 million. The sales increase was driven by higher selling prices, which offset a 9.2% drop in volumes, on a pound basis. The company’s fiscal first-quarter ended on November 30, 2011.
