Wacker Joint Venture Starts Solar Wafer Plant Construction in Germany

Wacker Chemie says it has begun construction of a €50-million ($72 million) silicon solar wafer plant at Jena, Germany through its joint venture with Schott (Mainz, Germany). The companies will complete stage one of their joint wafer plant by April 2008, Wacker says. Production capacity is estimated to reach about 100 megawatts/year by the end of 2008, Wacker says.
