Univar Finally Acquires Long-Term Target ChemCentral

Chemical distributors have long complained about high costs, regulatory pressures, and competition, which many firms cite as fueling their industry’s rapid consolidation in recent years. Univar, which recently overtook Brenntag as the world’s largest chemical distributor, says it struggles with those same issues but that they are not what prompted its $650-million acquisition last month of ChemCentral.
