Services :: Distribution North American Chemical Rail Traffic Down 13.7% Last Week1:05 AM MDT | August 11, 2009 | Vincent Valk North American chemical industry railcar loadings totaled 40,861 for the week ended August 1, a 15.3% drop from the same week last year, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR). The U.S. saw 27,846 loadings for the week, a 13.7% decline from the same period in 2008. Total freight traffic for the entirety of July stood at 1,319,387 carloads, down 17.5% from July 2008, AAR says. Chemical industry loadings in Canada were down 19.4% for the week, to 11,986, while Mexican loadings were down 4.3%, to 1,029. Total year-to-date carloadings in the U.S...
