Services :: Distribution Chemicals Sector Rail Traffic Rises 9.2%3:29 PM MDT | September 16, 2010 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America rose 9.2% year-on-year last week, to 41,962 cars, according to the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington). U.S. traffic was up 7.1%, to 27,035 cars. Canadian traffic rose 16.5%, to 13,867 cars, while Mexican traffic fell 17.6% to 1,060 cars. Traffic fell from the prior week's totals. Last week included the Labor Day holiday in the U.S., as did the comparison week in 2009. Overall, North American freight rail traffic rose 7% year-on-year last week, to 362,957 cars, AAR says.
