Services :: Distribution Chemicals Sector Rail Traffic Rises 8.1%2:21 PM MDT | August 5, 2010 | Vincent Valk Chemicals sector rail traffic in North America rose 8.1% year-on-year last week, to 44,260 cars, the Association of American Railroads (AAR; Washington) reported. U.S. traffic was up 4.4%, to 29,083 cars. Canadian traffic rose 16.6%, to 13,937 cars, while Mexican traffic rose 7.7% to 1,240 cars. Traffic rose from the prior week's totals. Overall, North American freight rail traffic rose 11.3% last week, to 388,432 cars. U.S. traffic set a weekly high for 2010, at 300,292 cars, 9.4% above the same week in 2009.
