What Private Equity Boom?

Public perception may be that private equity firms are gobbling up whole parts of the chemical industry, but a closer look at the data shows that industry buyers remain the driving force behind M&A activity—and even managed to take back a significant share of deals from private equity firms in 2006. Private equity firms accounted for about a quarter of the global M&A market in chemicals from 2000 to 2005 measured by the number of deals, “but they have lost significant share in 2006,” says Peter Young, president of Young & Partners...
