Weakening economies in the U.S. and Europe are negatively impacting chemical demand, but producers note that conditions are not nearly as grim as sentiment and the sharp declines in financial markets would indicate. Demand and profits roared out of recession, but industry has come to a turning point at the start of the fourth quarter.
