Japan Looks Outward

Japan’s chemical industry has faced severe challenges in the past year. The Great East Japan Earthquake and Thailand floods in 2011 stressed supply chains, and weaker markets in China and Europe have limited exports. The near-term outlook is weak as producers confront challenges in the domestic market and weak export demand (p. 19).
