Yara International to Buy Terra Industries for $4.1 Billion

Yara International (Oslo), the biggest producer of nitrogen fertilizers, has agreed to buy Terra Industries for $4.1 billion in cash, just weeks after CF Industries abandoned a hostile bid to buy Terra. The transaction is one of a number of merger and acquisition (M&A) deals to be announced in the fertilizer industry, and it will strengthen Yara’s presence significantly in the U.S. The acquisition is scheduled to close by June 2010.
