Chemical Week Magazine :: Top of the Week WTO Rules Against China’s curbs on Raw Material Exports10:47 AM MDT | July 8, 2011 | —IAN YOUNG The World Trade Organization (WTO; Geneva) has ruled that China’s practice of restricting exports of certain key raw materials, including some used extensively by the chemical industry, violates international trade regulations. A WTO panel backed a case brought jointly by the European Union (EU), U.S., and Mexico, and says the export restrictions should be removed. The case covers exports of nine raw materials including fluorspar, silicon metal, silicon carbide, and yellow phosphorus.
