Chemical Week Magazine :: Top of the Week QP, ExxonMobil Sign Deal for Qatar Petchems Project7:51 AM MST | January 8, 2010 | Kerri Walsh and Ian Young Qatar Petroleum (QP; Doha) and ExxonMobil Chemical have signed an agreement to advance their plans to build a world-scale petrochemicals complex at Ras Laffan, Qatar. The complex will include a gas cracker with capacity for 1.6 million m.t./year of ethylene; two 650,000-m.t./year, gas-phase polyethylene (PE) plants; and a 700,000-m.t./year ethylene glycol plant. The ethylene and PE units will be the largest manufacturing facilities for those products worldwide. The cracker will be be based on ethane and propane feedstocks, sources say.
