Obama Leads International Challenge to China’s Rare Earth Export Restrictions

The U.S., European Union (EU), and Japan have launched a legal challenge to China’s restrictions on exports of rare earths. They have jointly requested dispute settlement consultations with China at the World Trade Organization (WTO; Geneva). President Obama announced on March 13 that the U.S. will join the EU and Japan in challenging the policy as allegedly violating WTO law.
