Chemical Week Magazine :: Top of the Week CPChem to Build U.S. LAO Unit; CEO Departs to ConocoPhillips9:34 AM MDT | October 15, 2010 | Lindsey Bewley and Robert Westervelt Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) says it will build a 200,000-m.t./year linear alpha olefins (LAO) plant at its Cedar Bayou complex in Baytown, TX. The 1-hexene plant is expected to start up in the first-quarter of 2014. Capital costs were not disclosed. “This plant will meet the growing demand for 1-hexene comonomers by polyethylene (PE) producers around the world,” says Dennis Holtermann, general manager of normal alpha olefins and polyalphaolefins at CPChem.
