Walmart moves ahead with chemicals safety program

Walmart, early in March, disclosed the next steps in its sustainable chemistry initiative, which was announced in September 2013 ( CW, Sept. 16/23, 2013, p. 9) as a measure to reduce use of hazardous, high-priority chemicals in consumer products sold at the retail giant. The policy, which is voluntary, includes sections on ingredient disclosure; safer formulations, including reducing the high-priority chemicals through alternatives’ assessment; and adopting US EPA’s Design for Environment (DfE) program for private-label Walmart and Sam’s Club...
