Sustainable palm oil: Traceability a new priority

Large consumers of palm oil, including many personal-care chemical makers, are ramping up programs to trace palm oil back to its source. BASF announced on 17 February that it will create a new line of personal-care ingredients in Europe based on sustainable palm oil “sourced via the segregation (SG) or mass balance (MB) supply chain system.” Unilever, meanwhile, is aiming to source all its palm oil from traceable and certified sustainable sources by 2020.
