Lanxess Invests in South African Leather Chemicals Unit

Lanxess will invest €40 million ($53.2 million) to build a carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration unit at Newcastle, South Africa. The facility produces sodium dichromate, which is further processed into chrome-tanning materials for the leather industry. Lanxess’s new unit will provide highly concentrated CO2 and Lanxess will, as a result, become independent of the delivery capacity of external CO2 suppliers.
