FDA Okays Superabsorbents

BASF says the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the company’s superabsorbents for use in indirect food contact packaging for poultry, meat, fish, and fruits and vegetables. Superabsorbents absorb and bind leaking liquids, such as traces of blood or watery juices, to help food stay fresh longer and look more appealing, BASF says. High-performance superabsorbent granules can be incorporated as a filler in the manufacture of soaker pads used in packaging, BASF says.
