Senate Advances Bill to Boost Product Safety Oversight

The Senate Commerce Committee recently passed legislation that would increase funding for the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC; Washington), and increase safety rules for manufacturers and importers. Lawmakers say they are considering legislative changes to the CPSC after repeated product recalls, many involving toys, and exposed agency deficiencies.
