GAO Report Recommends EPA Oversight of Safety Board

The General Accounting Office (GAO; Washington) says that EPA’s inspector general (IG) should have permanent oversight of the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB; Washington) to correct problems related to gaps in CSB’s investigative, data quality, human capital, and management capabilities. CSB makes safety recommendations to regulatory agencies but has no enforcement authority and does not issue citations or fines.
