FDA to Update Public on BPA

The FDA will update the public about bisphenol A (BPA) at a February 24 public meeting, according to a notice published in the February 10 Federal Register. FDA has ruled that BPA is safe for use in food packaging and beverage containers, a decision that generated criticism from some lawmakers and scientific experts (CW, Aug. 25, 2008, p. 6). FDA officials said last December that they will review the BPA data but had no immediate plans to change their assessment.
