Chemical Week Magazine :: Regulatory European High Court Bans Deca-BDE Starting in July9:37 AM MDT | April 7, 2008 | Kara Sissell The European Court of Justice (ECJ; Brussels) has ruled that a 2005 European Union (EU) decision to exempt flame retardant deca-brominated diphenyl ether (deca-BDE) from a hazardous materials directive was flawed, because the European Commission relied on a single scientific risk assessment to justify the exemption. The flame retardant’s exemption remains in place until June 30 to allow for marketplace adjustments, however.
