Chemical Week Magazine :: Regulatory EPA Asked to Repeal Ethanol Requirements9:28 AM MDT | May 20, 2008 | Kara Sissell Republican Senators have asked EPA to repeal rules that require a five-fold increase in ethanol production during the next 15 years. Rising food prices prompted 24 lawmakers to ask EPA to allow states to waive the rules, which were passed as part of the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) (CW, Dec. 19/26, p. 7). EISA includes a provision allowing EPA to grant states waivers from the mandated increase in ethanol production if it results in unintended consequences. Hutchison: EPA can waive requirements.
