Canada Moves to Limit Some Organosilicones

Canadian officials have listed additional chemicals that regulators will consider “high priority” for action under Canada’s Chemicals Management Plan. The most recent chemicals added to the list include octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5), and dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6). “Most notable among these is D5 which is used in a wide variety of personal care products and as a dry cleaning fluid,” according to the Halogenated Solvents Industry Alliance (HSIA; Arlington, VA).
