New Proposal Seeks to Increase FDA Resources and Authority

Draft legislation currently under review by a U.S. House subcommittee aims to increase FDA resources and its authority to better protect the nation’s food and pharmacuetical supply. The FDA Globalization Act of 2008 proposal also aims to require FDA to inspect, at least once every four years, foreign manufacturing plants exporting pharmaceuticals into the U.S. It also calls for establishing a foreign inspection force in certain countries.
