Merck KGaA Confirms Generics Sale; Launches Merck Serono

Merck KGaA has confirmed that it is “evaluating the divestiture” of its Merck Generics generic drug division (CW, Jan. 3/10, p. 5). The company says it is in the early stages of planning to sell the generics business, and that it is “not engaged in initial discussions with any potential buyers.” Analysts say that the sale of the generics business could raise up to €4 billion ($5.3 billion).
