(Mumbai) says that it has acquired a majority stake in generics pharmaceutical manufacturer Kyowa Pharmaceutical Industry Co. Ltd. (Osaka), for an undisclosed amount. Lupin is rumored to have paid about $60 million for the firm, reports say. “This is a very significant part of our strategy to tap leading global markets, and [the deal] establishes a beachhead [for Lupin] in the second-largest pharmaceutical market in the world,” says Desh Bandhu Gupta, Lupin chairman. “Kyowa has major strengths in product development...
