Chemical Week Magazine :: Pharmaceuticals & Fine Chemicals Hovione Opens API Facility in Ireland12:03 PM MDT | May 1, 2009 | DEEPTI RAMESH Active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturer Hovione (Loures, Portugal) says it has opened an API manufacturing site at Cork, Ireland. Pfizer last month completed the hand over of the plant, which Hovione agreed to acquire last December (CW, Dec. 22/29, 2008, p. 22). Pfizer had used the plant to produce API intermediates for its cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor. Hovione says it will use the plant to produce APIs for many pharma companies worldwide, but that it will continue to do a small amount of manufacturing for Pfizer at the facility. Hovione’s...
