Hovione Opens API Facility in Ireland

Active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturer Hovione (Loures, Portugal) says it has opened an API manufacturing site at Cork, Ireland. Pfizer last month completed the hand over of the plant, which Hovione agreed to acquire last December (CW, Dec. 22/29, 2008, p. 22). Pfizer had used the plant to produce API intermediates for its cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor.
