Cambrex Profits Fall on Low Generic API Sales

Cambrex (East Rutherford, NJ) posted second-quarter net profits down 19%, to $1.8 million, on sales up by 5%, to $66.2 million. Sales of generic active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) fell in the quarter but were partially offset by higher custom manufacturing revenues, including higher revenues from controlled substances, Cambrex says. “New laboratories in our Iowa facility were commissioned during the second quarter to support growing demand for highly potent compounds,” says Steven Klosk, president and CEO.
