Chemical Week Magazine :: Pharmaceuticals & Fine Chemicals CPhI: Dow Brings Synthetic Glycerine Business Back Under its Domain7:59 AM MDT | October 6, 2008 | Deepti Ramesh in Frankfurt Dow told CW at the recent CPhI expo in Frankfurt that since August, it has brought back its Optim synthetic glycerine business to the main Dow Chemical group, after a period of about three years. The business is now focused mainly on pharmaceutical customers. Dow is the only synthetic glycerine manufacturer in the world, the company says. Since Dow shut down its Optim synthetic glycerine plant at Freeport, Texas in late 2005, Safechem (Düsseldorf), a business unit of Dow, has continued to run a second Optim plant at Stade, Germany, Dow says.
