Chemical Week Magazine :: Other Novamont Advances Bio-BDO7:23 AM MST | January 20, 2012 Novamont (Novara, Italy), a biodegradable plastics firm, expects to start producing 1,4-butanediol (BDO) from renewable resources in mid-2013. The company announced recently it would convert a plant that it is acquiring from BioItalia at Adria, Italy—part of a previously announced partnership with Genomatica (San Diego)—to use Genomatica technology. Capacity for biobased BDO will be about 20,000 m.t./year and all of the converted plant’s output will be for captive use by Novamont.
