Haldor Frederik Axel Topsøe, Danish scientist, humanitarian, and founder of chemical engineering and catalysts production company Haldor Topsøe A/S (Copenhagen), passed away on 19 May, shortly before his 100th birthday. Born on 24 May 1913, Haldor Topsøe was the eldest son of Captain Flemming Topsøe and Hedvig Sofie. Haldor grew up in Copenhagen during a time of social unrest, and his father’s involvement in voluntary social work, covering vital services during general strikes, made a lifelong impression on him.
