German chemical workers demand 5.5% wage rise

German trade union IG BCE (Hanover), representing workers in the chemical, mining, and energy sectors, has called for a pay rise of 5.5% ahead of the forthcoming round of pay [tariff] negotiations. The union has also called for an increase in the money received by apprentices in the industry. In addition, the union wants to continue the tariff contract "The future through training" and to improve the situation whereby apprentices are offered permanent contracts after completion of their training.
