Growth in demand for caprolactam has weakened with the economic downturn, and Ube’s market share has been heavily eroded by the entry of new manufacturers and expansion by existing manufacturers, mainly in China, the company says. Prices of benzene feedstock and auxiliary materials have risen too. Ube will also cease production of caprolactam derivatives at Sakai.
