Shell selects Louisiana site for $12.5-billion GTL facility

Shell has selected Ascension Parish, LA, as the location for a possible gas-to-liquids (GTL) facility, Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal announced on 24 September. If built, the facility would produce transportation fuels and other products, such as specialty waxes and feedstocks for lubricants, plastics, and detergents. According to the terms of the agreement, Shell would spend at a minimum $12.5 billion on the project. Shell operates two GTL facilities—a 14,700-bbl/day plant in Bintulu, Malaysia, which went online in 1993, and the 140,000-bbl/day Pearl project...
