Sasol’s net profit drops by almost 12%

Sasol reported a net profit of 12.61 billion rand ($1.39 billion) during the 6 months to 31 December 2012—down almost 12% from same period in 2011. The latest results were negatively impacted by once-off charges totaling R3.6 billion, the company says. Chemical cluster sales rose 3% versus the prior year, to R48.6 billion, in second-half 2012. Operating profit, however, fell sharply, to R11 million from R4.3 billion in the year-ago period.
